This subject provides an opportunity to learn about the theory and practice of art and design and develop creative and analytical skills. This can involve working in a range of media, such as drawing, painting, digital media and photography.

Most entrants onto art and design degrees will have done a one-year art foundation course after completing sixth form or college, but this may not be necessary. 

Students may have taken a level 3 applied general qualification to help them create a portfolio of work to get onto an art foundation course, although some can go straight onto a degree.
