This course takes five to six years to complete and provides the pathway to become professionally qualified as a veterinary surgeon. You'll first learn about the structure and functions of healthy animals before tackling the diseases that affect them, how to manage these and the surgical know-how needed to treat domestic, farm or zoo animals.

Veterinary science degrees are highly competitive. For these courses, taking chemistry and biology and either maths or physics should keep all universities offering this course open to you.

There may also be admissions tests, such as the Biomedical Admission Test (BMAT), so check entry requirements carefully.
